Services - Mushroom Troubadour

Services I offer: inquire at mushroomtroubadour@gmail.com for a quote

Find a mushroom you need identified?  Wondering about edibility, toxicity, or just curiousity?  Send information about habitat, and photos from all angles.  A spore print may also be required, which I can walk you through.

You can post these inquiries on www.facebook.com/mushroomtroubadour for more community interaction, or email me personally at mushroomtroubadour@gmail.com

I don’t charge for an occasional id question, but I accept donations Venmo @JoshVogeler

Would you like to book a private or small group foray?  Do you want to learn how to locate and identify your favorite mushroom?  Or are you just curious about all the fungal diversity of an area?  I can teach you identification skills, and/or take you on a species specific hunt.  This could be on your private property, or we could go explore some public lands together.

I am based in Colorado, but will travel to you if I’m able.  Besides Rocky Mountain habitats, I also have experience in the Pacific Northwest and the Midwest, plus I enjoy exploring new places.  Obviously, the success of this foray will depend on seasonal and locational variabilities, which will be taken into account during scheduling.  I can’t guarantee we’ll find what we’re looking for, but the best way to learn is to look.  There is a lot of fungal wisdom to be discovered anywhere anytime!

With all the 2020 wildfires out west, we could could have some really fun Spring/Summer Morel hunts, provided sufficient rainfall.

email me at mushroomtroubadour@gmail.com to discuss time, location, and compensation.

Would you like to preserve the genetics of a FRESH mushroom for your own cultivation experiments?  It could be a wild mushroom, or an edible specimen from market, as long as it’s fresh.

I will grow the mycelium on agar in petri dishes, and can also create spawn on grain or wooden dowels if desired.

Contact me for time availability and a quote.  Obviously cloning a fresh mushroom is very time sensitive, and I will let you know if I’m in town with my lab equipment.

Got a hardwood tree stump (Cottonwood, Elm…) in your yard you’d like to convert into 5+ years of food?  Wondering how to incorporate more fungi into your garden, yard, or grow space?  Let me give you some ideas, and maybe provide you with some northern Colorado native genetics.  I can even come do the work for you.  My cultivation experience is with wood decay mushrooms (Oysters, Turkey Tail), not Agaricus (button/portabella) or Psilocybe (psychedelics).

In Colorado climates, the easiest species to grow outdoors and in greenhouses are Oysters Mushrooms.  With my northern Colorado native strains, it’s normal to get 3+ flushes of Oysters a year after a good rain or snow melt, any month, temps 30-90 degrees.  I have an inoculated Elm stump, 10″ diameter, which has been fruiting at least once every season of the year for 6 years!
